About Chimpanzee Trust

Dedicated to Primate Welfare & Habitat Protection

Established in 1998, the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (Chimpanzee Trust) manages Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and leads field conservation efforts across critical forest corridors in Uganda.

The Chimpanzee Trust is among the leaders in chimpanzee-focused environmental conservation, providing excellent care of rescued chimpanzees, contributing to public awareness, and engaging with communities living alongside chimpanzee populations.

We accomplish our mission through three main programs: Sanctuary Care, Environmental Education, and Wildlife Conservation.

Ngamba Island Sanctuary

Caring for 55 orphaned and rescued chimpanzees in a realistic forest habitat, providing veterinary care, rehabilitation, integration, and safety.

Conservation Program

Protecting wildlife in the Albertine Rift through local community sensitization, education, and development of alternative livelihoods.

Environmental Education

Our 'Change My Community Program' raises awareness by integrating environmental education into primary and secondary school curriculums.

Where We Work

Our sanctuary spans diverse environments designed for the well-being of our chimpanzees, from dense forest canopies to state-of-the-art care facilities.
